Creating a Unique Living Space in Shenzhen Bay

In contemporary Chinese cities, young elites aspire to personalized quality living and a home that they can share socially. The Vanke Hongshuwan Show Flat responds to these needs by articulating different spaces that encourage visual interaction. The designers have carefully chosen forms and materials to create a space that is both visually appealing and comfortable, providing its owners with quality and comfort.

In a 130sqm 3-bedroom, 2-level show flat, the challenge was to create a comfortable and spacious loft space within a 4.3m height split level. The low ceiling posed challenges in terms of lighting and space utilization. To address this, concealed lighting and wall wash lighting were used as the main lighting solutions, avoiding additional add-on dimensions that would lower the ceiling height. This created a soft, even, and relaxing atmosphere. The space for concealed lighting also served multiple purposes, such as running A/C pipes, showcasing the designers' commitment to compact yet complex design.

The choice of materials played a crucial role in creating a natural and comfortable ambiance. A combination of wood texture, cement boards, and stone tiles was used to enhance the spatial dimension and make the space appear taller. The designers also adopted a lighter color for the ceiling to create an illusion of height. Different shades of white were used to suggest richness and uniqueness, further enhancing the three-dimensional feel of the space.

The Vanke Hongshuwan Show Flat is a testament to the creativity and ingenuity of Atelier Global Limited. By breaking conventional boundaries and utilizing innovative design strategies, they have created a living space that is both visually stunning and functional. This project has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in 2017, highlighting its outstanding design and contribution to quality of life improvements.
